The Impact of Adverse Experiences in Childhood on Overall Health as an Adult

I feel passionate about writing this post today, which is mainly about sharing another writer’s blog post.  Christine Cissy White (“Cissy”) has written a clear and compelling essay about something many adults who experienced childhood abuse already know: the fall-out from childhood trauma can cause a myriad of health problems in adults.  Cissy goes further: childhood trauma can shorten our lifespans.

I hope Cissy’s post is shared widely.

Cissy and others write for the website “Aces Too High.”  “ACE” stands for “adverse childhood experiences.”  The website focuses on the many negative consequences for society of trauma in childhood, not just physical or mental health problems in individuals.

Here is the link for Cissy’s essay and the website.

As I prepare to close, I’m reminded of the World Health Organization’s definition of health, which is, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

I was terribly abused as a child.  As a result, I have PTSD and a dissociative disorder.  Currently, I am unable to work at my former career.

My journey is about reclaiming my self, my soul and my health.

I’m wishing myself and each and every one of you, robust health.

And light on the journey.

Yours,

Annie.
